Kansas City has made history with the opening of CPKC Stadium.

Kansas City has made history with the opening of CPKC Stadium, the first stadium in the world purposely built specifically for a professional women's sports team.

Woman-owned and founded, Monarch Build and construction company, JE Dunn completed the new CPKC Stadium, home of Kansas City’s professional women’s soccer team, the Kansas City Current. It is the first stadium in the world purpose-built for a women’s professional sports team, located on Berkley Riverfront in downtown Kansas City. The facility spans seven acres with 11,500 seats, luxury suites, and in-stadium amenities including pitch-side seats, a bunker club, supporter section, community plaza areas, local Kansas City restaurants and a cutting-edge pitch with heating and cooling capabilities. Advancing women’s soccer and athletics on a global scale, CPKC Stadium is the result of a mission to provide a state-of-the-art facility offering the best player, fan and partner experience in the world.

A joint venture partnership, JE Dunn and Monarch Build, provided a women-led team who served as the General Contractor for the Kansas City Current's new CPKC Stadium. JE Dunn and Monarch Build were responsible for all pre-construction and construction phases of the project, including management of cost and schedule control, and installation of a natural grass FIFA quality pitch and sub-air aeration system.

This unique venue is truly a groundbreaking development and an advancement for women everywhere.

Quote from CREW Kansas City member Courtney Kounkel, Owner and Founder of Monarch Build, "What the Kansas City Current is doing is raising the bar for all women. It’s finally telling the world that women deserve exactly what men have. So to be a part of that is the highlight of my career, to be honest."

Kisha Bausby, Regional Sr DEI Manager, stated: “I’m proud to say that the new KC Current Stadium is now a KC landmark that has taken its place alongside other notable fixtures in our city like our fountains, world-class BBQ, and national champions - Royals & Chiefs. Additionally, I am honored to have worked with the construction team to bring life to this vision by way of small business inclusion and a diverse workforce. Women all across Kansas City and the world should celebrate the significance of this project as well as the visibility it gives to women athletes and professionals.”

Kansas City Current celebrated its home opening game on March 16, 2024 with 5-4 win over the Portland Thorns.
